Enugu Govt Accuses Ekweremadu Of Paying Flavour, Phyno, KCee To Rundown Ugwuanyi

The rumbles between Enugu State Government and music artistes, Flavour and Phyno, has taken a new turn with the government accusing erstwhile deputy president of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, of sponsoring the artistes to run down Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Ugwunayi speaking through his Special Adviser on Technical Matters, , Stanley Uchenna Ezediuto, alleged that Ekweremadu paid a whopping sum of N78m to the artistes to run down the governor.

It is the first time that the otherwise cordial relationship between Ugwunayi and Ekweremadu is now being tarnished in the political space.

The music artistes and protesters had disagreed with Ugwuanyi last Saturday while the governor addressed the protesters. While they expressed displeasure over state of affairs, saying Enugu was not working, Ugwuanyi insisted that the issues they raised was not part of the protest and asked them to focus on ending police brutality.

Furthermore, they resented Ugwuanyi’s catch phrase, “Enugu is in the hands of God”, as they told the Governor that Enugu remained in his hands, having been elected to steer the ship of the state. an angry Ugwuanyi was said to have stormed out in anger.

The celebrities, namely, Phyno, Zoro, KCee, Flavour as well as Mastercraft, were later to issue statements, saying the governor and the government of the state should be held liable should anything happen to them or the other protesters.

But in a reaction on Monday, Ugwuanyi’s media aide said: “It is no longer news that some miscreants have highjacked the peaceful #EndSars protest in Enugu State just to satisfy their quest for earthly wealth.

“How can a protest engineered by the Nigerian Youths be used for self-aggrandizement?

“I wish to state that Phyno and Flavor should henceforth desist from using Enugu Youths for business. We will henceforth resist such move aimed at tarnishing the image of the people oriented Government of Enugu State.

“As I type this message, sharing formula has become a problem between the duo as to who will take the lion share of the fund.

“We have as well beamed our searchlight on them to determine how the whole story will end.

“We warn that if Senator Ike Ekweremmadu fails to desist from such venture, we shall organise the mother of all protests in Enugu West to press home our disenchantment.”

Before now, persons close to the Governor had alleged that Phyno and Flavour used Ekweremadu’s car on their arrival at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and also used a popular hotel said to be owned by the lawmaker’s close ally, although they were yet to publish pictures of the artistes in the car as earlier promised.

It will be recalled hat the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ugwuanyi on Mobilisation and Empowerment, Mrs Bibian Anekwe, had last weekend accused the music artistes, who hail from the neighbouring Anambra State of using the EndSARS protests to blackmail and run down the governor.

“Don’t use #EndSARS protest to blackmail Enugu State Government. Go to your state. Our Governor is working”, she stated, in a graphic post that earned her and the government a backlash on social media for divisiveness.

Following the attacks, however, Mrs. Anekwe later took to her social media handles to apologise, claiming her Facebook was hacked.
