APC Crisis: Buhari Meets El-Rufai, Akeredolu To Douse Tension
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday held meetings with Governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State in a bid to soothe the angst of the governors and their supporters after their local political enemies were given automatic return tickets by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The meeting with the two governors follows the automatic return tickets given to all three APC senators in Ondo State and that given to Senator Shehu Sani.
Both governors had spent much of their political capital in the last one year opposing the senators and even positioned their protégées to run against the senators.
However, the national leadership of the party, however, played a fast one on the governors when those challenging the senators were disqualified meaning that the senators would have automatic return tickets.
Details of the meeting between the governors and the president were not available, but it is believed that the president summoned the two governors to seek their understanding of the issue.
gwgng.com, however, understands that whatever the president’s plea that the Ondo State Government would definitely sponsor opposition to the senators from the state.
“I can tell you that no matter the agreement that our aspirants will contest the election on different platforms and will defeat them,” an associate of Governor Akeredolu said following the meeting.
