Rivers APC: Abe Rejects Ratification Of Cole, Says Battle Has Just Started
Senator Magnus Abe has rejected the decision of the National Working Committee, NWC of the All Progressives Congress, APC to ratify Mr. Tonye Cole as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2019 election saying Cole did not emerge through due process.
Speaking to newsmen in Port-Harcourt on Friday, Abe who conducted a parallel primary election where he emerged as candidate said:
“The battle has just begun. The party has set up an appeal. We will take advantage of the appeal panel and forward our case.
“We do not know the delegates that voted in the indirect primaries and we did not participate. It is only when all the aspirants participate that you can accept the process.
“The result of the indirect primaries remains unacceptable and will remain unacceptable. The indirect primaries was a charade set up by few individuals to bring in their candidate. We will not accept that result.”
Blaming the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for the crisis in the party, he said:
“This is the situation we have talked and warned about, when the Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi called a meeting of the party and started the event that has resulted to this.
“We have warned and pleaded for over two years now to draw the attention of the party to the crisis that was in the party which was aimed at ensuring we did not participate in the governorship primaries of the state.
“We are now faced with a fact that a man who just joined the party can claim to be a candidate of the party. This is against the wish of every body who has worked for the party.
“I don’t have anything against Tonye Cole because he is my friend. But we are politicians and we are fighting for justice. Without truth there can be no justice and without justice there can be no peace.
“We remain committed to the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari. We stand on the ideals of the party.”
