Ogun Councillors Disown Abiodun, Endorse Akinlade

Councilors in Ogun State have disowned the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun, saying the report that they endorsed him was fraudulent and meant to divide their ranks.

They challenged anyone saying to the contrary to show the names and signatures of any councilor in the state that is backing Abiodun.

The Ogun State  Councillors Forum in a statement signed by its secretary, Ololade Kazeem affirmed its support for Adekunle Akinlade, the APC gubernatorial aspirant backed by the state chapter of the APC and Governor Ibikunle Amosun. Akinlade, however, has not gotten the backing of the national leadership of the APC which is backing Abiodun.

The statement reads, “We want to inform the general public that such a report is fake, misleading and unfounded; aimed at destabilising party faithfuls and causing unnecessary tension to heat up the polity in the state.

“No councillors in Ogun state held a rally in support of Dapo Abiodun as we all stand with the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election that produced Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade on the 2nd October, 2018.

“Please recall that all the councillors in Ogun state held a protest on Monday 22nd October, 2018 demanding that the mandate freely given to Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade must be restored by the National Working Committee of APC.

“We are not surprised that some desperate politicians are the ones behind such a report, impersonating local government lawmakers.

“We did not protest yesterday as claimed, as we were at the Ogun state ministry of Budget and Planning’s town hall meeting with our able leader and governor, His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

“The general public is hereby urged to disregard this rumour. As local government councillors, we are pledging our unflinching support for Governor Ibikunle Amosun and the candidate we all voted for, Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade.”
