Fayemi Stirs Storm As Govt Stops Allocation Of Oja Oba Market

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has ordered the stoppage of further allocation of shops at the ultra modern Oja Oba Market following what the government on Thursday claimed as the discovery of significant structural defects in the hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

The allocation of market stores in the market which was partially built by the former administration of Ayo Fayose was commenced shortly before Fayose left office.

It was at that time being alleged that the allocation was done using political considerations. Associates of the former governor are, however, saying that under the agreement entered into with the beneficiaries that a compensation of N11 million would be paid for each revocation.

In a statement announcing the stoppage of the process, the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Niyi Oyebode said:

“Following the inspection of facilities at the Ultra modern Oja Oba Market, Ado-Ekiti by Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, earlier in the week, it has been discovered that the market complex is not ready for use.

“A structural evaluation of the complex shows that some considerable construction work would be required to fix the inherent structural defects which have made the building unsafe for use.

“As this process would take some time, the Governor has therefore directed that the process of allocation of shops be stopped immediately.

“The Governor also directed that all subscribers with proofs of payment for shops in the market should be refunded.

“The Ministries of Works and Commerce are to work out a seamless process for the refund.”
