Delta South: Conspiracy Plots As Uduaghan Hopes On PDP Associates To Defeat Manager
APC Chieftains Say He Is Not Using Party Structures
There is increasing apprehension in the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC over the intentions of the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who is flying the banner of the party in the Delta South Senatorial contest.
Dr. Uduaghan, party activists affirm, is not using the structure of the party in the area but is said to be relying on his old buddies in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, his former party.
Uduaghan’s use of his former allies in the PDP is said to be brewing talk of a conspiracy within the PDP to deliver the former governor at the expense of the PDP candidate, Senator James Manager.
Senator Manager who is Ijaw has been in the seat for four straight terms against the rotation principle that dictated before he came.
Dr. Uduaghan, an ethnic Itsekiri who supported Manager in his second and third term bids had expected Manager to surrender the seat to him in 2015 but Manager allied with Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and others worked together to force Uduaghan out of the contest for the PDP ticket.
Dr. Uduaghan subsequently defected to the APC last year.
However, before his defection, many of Uduaghan’s associates defected to the APC. Among them was Chief Emami Ayiri, the Ologbosere of Warri Kingdom.
While Ayiri was able to help Uduaghan obtain the APC Senate ticket, it is now believed that many of those who stayed back in the PDP are working to push Uduaghan’s aspiration at the expense of the PDP’s candidate.
“They are not working with us, he (Uduaghan) is not using our structures and what we hear is that he is relying on his boys in the PDP,” an APC chieftain complained.
Uduaghan’s choice not to use the APC structure is, however, not surprising given the fact that the bad blood that arose from his entry into the party is still fresh.
All the major candidates that vied for the APC Delta South senatorial ticket with Dr. Uduaghan were disqualified after purchasing the ticket allowing the former governor to contest alone.
