Kudos For Udom As Ibom Air Launches
Commendations rained on Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday as former Governor Victor Attah and Senate President Bukola Saraki commended him on adding Ibom Air as another feather to his cap.
They spoke at the launching of Ibom Air, an airline conceived by the Governor Emmanuel administration which came into operation on Wednesday.
Attah who served as governor of the state between 1999 and 2007 and launched the ground for the aviation sector in the state by initiating the construction of the Uyo Airport was particularly impressed.
“I thank God that we have Governor Udom Emmanuel who has deemed it necessary to carry on the project we started years ago. I was accused of running the government as a business but I am happy that Udom Emmanuel is running the government as a business.
“Today we have in front of us the beginning of something that will bring economic development to the state. There was a time when it was believed that successive governments destroyed everything the previous government had done. But that is not so with Governor Udom.
Senator Saraki who unveiled the two aircraft in praising Governor Emmanuel said:
“Today, we celebrate leadership, we celebrate the good things that can come out of Nigeria, we celebrate the audacity of hope. The governor has created an environment for people to have jobs. We are proud of you in the PDP family that you are one of us”.
Governor Emmanuel on his part “The journey to achieve Ibom airline started in 2016 and today, it is a reality. If we were to search the minds of people, this day would have been frustrated but we give glory to God for making this day a reality.
“I want to charge my people that we can achieve a lot if we come together. And I want to reassure the former governor, Obong Victor Attah that very soon the MRO will be a place that will maintain fleets of aircrafts across the country.
“As at today we have done a lot more in terms of economic road network. We have done even more than the Federal government has done. If you doubt it let me take you round. So in terms of roads we are achieving our aim.
“We are not only developing a deep sea port. I want to reassure Akwa Ibom that before the end of this tenure in 2023 we will launch one of the most digital sea ports in the entire Africa
“It is unfortunate that people who call themselves nationalists will sit at national television and be telling a blatant lie. How can somebody say a state like Akwa Ibom has not commissioned any project in the past three and half years. Let Akwa Ibom people rebuke such people. This is not a time to destroy what we have”
