Ahead of tomorrow’s governorship election there is apprehension in some sections of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC over the lethargy that has lately shadowed the campaign in the state.

The unease which first came to public knowledge on Monday when Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo visited the state to lift the morale of the party members.

At the town hall meeting at the Conference Centre of the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI Effurun, it was brought to the notice of the vice-president that the candidate Chief Great Ogboru had not been able to integrate other stakeholders into his campaign especially in Delta North.

“If Chief Ogboru thinks that he can win the election alone using only his people, he would be deceiving himself,” Hon. Sebastian Okoh, a party chieftain from Delta North was quoted as saying during the town hall meeting.

Okoh’s claims is reflected in the expression of many other party chieftains who express fear that Ogboru despite the passion around his core supporters has not been able to break out to win frenzied support among the larger electorate.

“The APC candidate who has contested five previous governorship elections in 2003, 2007, 2010 rerrun, 2011, and 2015 is going for his sixth run.

A source said that despite the support of the ruling party that this run is about the most chaotic of all the runs that Ogboru has been involved in.

Ogboru’s problem according to party insiders is not only self-made. Circumstances around the governorship primaries have also made a number of party chieftains especially those who contested the ticket with him to hold back.

Following the vice-president’s visit this website understands that some of the contenders like Engr. Victor Ochei started reaching out but in the view of some political actors it was too late and too little.

“Don’t forget that they are in court over the primaries and it can go anyway so they had been restrained from reaching out to him,” the source said.
