Kidnapper Says His Father Stole His Ransom Proceeds

The leader of a kidnap cum cult group in Akwa Ibom State, Edidiong Bill on Wednesday opened up on how his father stole and disappeared with his N2.5 million share from the proceeds of the kidnap of a woman.

Bill squealed when he was paraded along with 17 suspected criminals at the police headquarters in Uyo.

Bill, 36 who is also the leader of the dreaded Vikings Cult group in Etinan said he plotted the kidnap of a lady in Uyo and that he realized N4.5 million out of which he took N2.5 million for himself and gave N2 million to other members of his group.

Bill said that he buried his portion in his father’s compound but narrated that his father dug it up and disappeared with it.

‘’my father took my share of the money. We collected N4.5million and I gave my gang members two million naira. I took my share home and buried it in my father’s compound and my father saw it, and he took the money and ran away and I have not seen him since then,” the gang leader disclosed.

The Akwa Ibom State commissioner of police, Zaki Ahmed who paraded the suspects used the opportunity to caution parents on the development of their children.

‘’Parents should encourage their children not to engage in crime. They should ensure that their children are brought up well. Crime does not pay. I want criminals to have a change of heart so that they can contribute their quota meaningfully to nation building’’, he said.

While vowing not to give up on the fight against crime in the state, he said: ‘’We are going to wage war on cultism in the state. We are going to take the war to their hideouts in the state. Most of the suspects arrested so far in the state have confessed to belonging to a particular cult group or the other, I therefore find a strong nexus between cultism and heinous crimes.

‘’Let me remind those involved in cultism in the state that the proscription order by the state government is still inforce and I will enforce it strictly. The Command under my watch will have zero tolerance for perpetrators of these crimes.

‘’I call on those perpetrating any form of criminality in the state to desist forthwith or quickly leave the state as no resources will be spared in ensuring that they are brought to book. I would carry this out professionally, respecting the rule of law and in accordance with international best practices’’.
