El-Rufai’s Body Bag Comment Echoes On Twitter Over Killing Of British Expat
Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna State has been put on the spot on Twitter over his body bag comment following the killing of British aid worker, Faye Mooney in Kajuru, Kaduna State last weekend.
The development came as some other twitter users observed the silence of the governor on the issue noting that the normally vibrant governor had been silent on the killing of Mooney by bandits. Mooney and her Nigerian partner, Matthew Oguchee were killed in a resort in Kajuru by yet unidetinifed bandits while a number of other Nigerians were kidnapped by the same bandits when the resort where they were lodged was raided by the gunmen last weekend.
The focus on Governor El-Rufai flows from the controversy that followed his claim days before the last General Election when he was quoted as saying that foreign observers to the election who meddle in the election could go back in body bags.
Reacting to the killing of Mooney who worked for the NGO, Mercy Corps, an activist, Oluchi Theophilus tweeting under the handle, Officialoluchi1 said:
Faye Mooney, a 29-year British Aid worker, is reported killed by kidnappers in Kaduna State. El-Rufai who made body bag threat should be blamed for it. Mr. Body bag @elrufai is yet to condemn this. RIP Faye, my thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with your family.
In his own tweet, Okoye Chukwuma tweeting under the handle, hallmarkmedia74 said:
“This British aid worker Faye Money was murdered in Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria with other few Nigerians. Remember that Kaduna State is the same state in which the governor, Mr. Nasir El-Rufai threatened foreigners that they will be sent home on body…”
El had in an interview session with state run media, NTA while playing down the calls for intervention by foreign observers said:
“We are waiting for the person that will come and intervene. They will go back in body bags, because nobody will come to Nigeria and tell us how to run our country.“
