Onyecheocha Gets Endorsement From Niger Delta APC Spokespersons

Spokespersons of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the Niger Delta chapters of the party have called for the election of Nkeiruika Onyeoocha as the next Speaker of the House to balance gender and geopolitical concerns.

The spokespersons in a statement issued on Wednesday noted that the permutations being fueled by party activists had put the Southeast and female gender out of recognition in the party. T

They said:

“one of  the major issues trending on the political scene is who becomes the next speaker in the House of Representatives. There have been arguments and counter-arguments in favour of different geo-Political zones.

“As a body responsible for the good image of the All Progressives Congress (APC), we have a responsibility to take a position on this matter of urgent national importance.

“As a matter of fact, Nigeria is currently divided into six geo-political zones. These six should be well spread at the federal level of government for the sake of justice, equity, stability and promotion of diversity.

“The above takes into cognizance that there are qualified, competent and highly cerebral personalities across the six geo-political zones. As a matter of fact, this is a sure way to showcase some of our very best.

“The North-West produced the President while the South-West produced the Vice President. The North-East is currently warming up to produce the Senate President.

“We feel and very strongly too, that the South-East should be encouraged and supported to produce the next speaker in the House of Representatives. This will boost the image and strength of our dear party, the APC, in that geo-political zone.

“The President, Vice President, and possibly the Senate President all share the same gender. We make bold to say that Nigeria is blessed with highly educated, competent and politically experienced women.

“The Niger Delta Conference of APC State Publicity Secretaries therefore wishes to align with credible and fair calls that Hon. Nkiruka Onyejieocha be encouraged and supported to become the next Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.

” Honourable Onyejieocha has served as a Local Government Chairman, cabinet commissioner in Abia State, and now returning to the House for a record fourth term. We appeal to the members-elect to consider her candidature.

“As disciplined party officials, we are not, and will never oppose the final position of the national leadership of the party on the subject matter. We, instead, chose to present these thoughts for consideration, and we are hopeful that our views will further help to stabilize the polity, and reposition our party in future elections.
