The parents of Boko Haram captive Christian teenager, Leah Sharibu were on Tuesday praised for raising her in a godly manner that made her not to denounce her faith even at the price of freedom.

The commendation was made as hundreds flocked to pray for her on the occasion of her 16th birthday at a service in Jos, Plateau State.

Among those who spoke at the service at ECWA Headquarter Church, Jos were ECWA President, Rev. Stephen Baba, Joy Machunga of CWEENS, Paul Hammache of the Leah Foundation among others.

While urging the people to keep faith that God would not abandon Sharibu to her fate, Machunga commended the parents of the school girl for “raising her in a way that she was able to stand up and defend her faith.”

She thus encouraged mothers to “inculcate godly values in their children”, saying that her situation could be compared to the three Hebrew princes that were held captive in the burning furnace in Babylon.

Hammache on her part said, “Leah is a role model, we need to celebrate her, she was held back because of her faith, we have been praying for her release, this is the second birthday she is marking in captivity, we must stay united in this fight against evil. We are inspired by her courage, her integrity is a challenge to all of us, and we must be bold for our faith.”
