Delta APC: Uduaghan Silent As Party Operatives Explore Peace Opportunity

Despite the vow by the Otega Emerhor led faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC to appeal the judgment that transferred legitimacy to the Prophet Jones Erue led faction, a quiet move to effect reconciliation has been initiated.

The move GreenWhiteGreen learnt is being initiated by relatively low level chieftains of the party who are talking to all sides in the intractable conflict.

The move is coming against the background of lamentations that high level party officials like the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan have failed to weigh in to bring peace to the party.

Besides Uduaghan, another high level party chieftain, Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for petroleum had in the past maintained contacts between the two factions of the party.

The Cyril Ogodo led state executive which is aligned to Emerhor was declared illegal by the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin on Friday. The court struck out the judgment of an Asaba High Court which had earlier conferred legitimacy on the Ogodo faction. Emerhor and his associates had upon that judgment sought to take the seats won by candidates aligned to the Prophet Jones Erue led executive which has now been recognized as the legally recognized state executive.

A source close to the Ogodo camp disclosed to GreenWhiteGreen that they would pursue the case to the Supreme Court putting in jeopardy expectations of harmony in the state chapter of the party.

The dispute has put into further jeopardy the bid by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to aspire for the office of Deputy Senate President given the unsettled contention over the seat as Emerhor who was nominated by the Ogodo faction for the Delta Central seat is also claiming the victory.

Besides the Delta Central Senatorial seat, the APC also won one House of Representatives seat and three House of Assembly constituencies.

The resolve to appeal the judgment it was disclosed, further decimates the opposition in the state giving the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP liberty.

However, a high level source in the Erue faction told GreenWhiteGreen that talks were already going on to make peace.

“It is an ego thing, and yes it is their right to appeal, but if you look at it from whatever angle they take it, they cannot win it. Either as a pre-election matter or as an election matter,” the source said even as he affirmed that he was more concerned with peace in the party.

“It is unfortunate that it is only those of us at the lower rung that are making this,” he said.
