OAU Student And Budding Novelist Slumps, Dies

A part three student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife who recently updated his cover photo with a book illustration with the title “Dark Morning” has died even before reaching the noon of his life.

Omotola Kayode, a student of microbiology, died on Friday after he suddenly collapsed in the midst of a football game among friends.

The university authorities in a statement on Saturday said he was confirmed dead after being rushed to the University Health Centre.

“The management hereby commiserate with the parents, family, classmates, colleagues and the entire University Community over this irreparable loss,” university spokesman, Abiodun Olarenwanju said in the statement.

Until his death, Omotola was a part three student of the university and was also a novelist and a scrabble player.

He had on May 8 the last day he made an entry on Facebook, updated his cover photo with a book entitled “Dark Morning.”

Friends and fellow students have been mourning him on Facebook lamenting that he was plucked in the morning of his life.
