Obaseki Vs Oshiomhole: Supporters At Daggers Drawn In Edo North

The battle for supremacy in Edo North between Adams Oshiomhole and his appointed successor as governor of Edo State seems to have been set with supporters of the national chairman on Sunday railing at traducers of the former governor.

Leaders and stakeholders from Edo North at a meeting at the weekend passed a vote of confidence on Oshiomhole as they flayed those they chided for wanting to distabilise the party as they vowed that the plots would fail.

The vote of confidence on Oshiomhole is coming against the background of serial endorsements of Obaseki for a second term from party stakeholders from across the state.

Among the prominent persons from Edo North who are believed to be supportive of Obaseki’s second term aspiration include Senator Domingo Obende, Prince Mactor Shaka Momodu and Alhaji Usman Shagadi.

However, departing from that narrative, leaders from Edo North at a meeting at the weekend took strong exception to what they termed as moves to tarnish Oshiomhole’s image to the benefit of Obaseki.

The 144 party chieftains drawn from the six local government areas of Edo North including Senator Francis Alimikehna, Comrade Peter Akpatanson among others in a communique said:

“That the leaders and stakeholders of Edo north APC resolved to resist any attempt by any individual or group of individuals to denigrate the character and person of the National Chairman.
“That comrade Adams Oshiomhole is a true democrat who believes in democratic principles and he does not force his opinion on others hence his slogan of let the people lead.
“That the leaders/stakeholders wish to reaffirm that the National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole remains the undisputed leader of APC in Edo state
“That it was the national chairman that single handedly built APC in Edo state by fighting powerful establishments and vested interests and rescued Edo people from the clutches of political vipers and suckers. It is therefore logical that he cannot be accused of destroying the party he has toiled day and night to build.
“That this desperate so called coalition group and their sponsors have no historical background of working and organizing any party activities in the past to enhance the growth of the party; it is obviously an amorphous body.
“We therefore use this medium to encourage all well meaning members of APC Edo state and at the national level not to be distracted by mischief makers but rather be focused and committed to the ideals of the leadership of our party.”
