BREAKING: Tribunal Clears Way For Buhari’s Inauguration
Muhammadu Buhari’s second term inauguration next Wednesday is to go ahead, the Presidential Election Tribunal ruled on Thursday as it dismissed a suit that sought to stop the inauguration.
Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and its Presidential Candidate, Mr Ambrose Aworu had filed a motion before the tribunal seeking to stop the inauguration on the claim that going ahead would injure the substantive issues brought in its petition against the election of Buhari as president.
Justice Joseph Ikyechi who delivered the lead judgment of the tribunal dismissed the application for lacking merit.
Aworu and his party, HDP had joined Buhari, his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents in the suit.
The two petitioners had in their motion observed that President Buhari as the incumbent president had set machinery in motion for his second term inauguration and asked that he, and the Acting Chief Justice of the Federation, Ibrahim Mohammed be stopped from administering the oath of office and oath of allegiance.
