High court on Yahaya Bello's request

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Kogi State has warned against releasing the estimated N30 billion bailout fund to the Yahaya Bello administration on the ground that past releases were squandered by the administration.

While not objecting to lessening the sufferings of civil servants who the party claimed were owed up to 38 months of salaries, the party asked the Central Bank to make direct payment of the money to the workers saying that doing otherwise would be seen as a payoff for the governor whom the party claimed has been rejected by the people of the state.

The PDP’s assertion is on the wings of increasing agitation against a second term for Governor Bello from within and outside his All Progressives Congress, APC.

The PDP in a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bode Ogunmola urged the authorities to question the governor on how he utilized past bailouts.

“All the administration has embarked upon is reckless looting of state resources. Any attempt to compromise by the CBN, would be a great disservice to the suffering people of Kogi State.

“The bailout itself is not a free fund, the money is a loan that will be paid back over a period of time with 9% interest. Any government that prides itself in probity will ask questions of how past releases were utilized before committing Kogi State into further debt.”

“Any further release to Governor Yahaya Bello would amount to a disservice to the poverty stricken workers of Kogi State. The government is financially reckless, with penchant for looting state resources and has the penchant not to pay salaries.

“We asked the CBN to pay Kogi workers directly. Any attempt to release the balance of bailout to Governor Bello, would amount to giving him his pay-off, because the government has been rejected and would be voted out in November.”
