EXCLUSIVE: Ibom Air Commences Operation With N15k Lagos-Uyo Fare

Ibom Air, the Akwa Ibom State Government owned airline is to commence commercial operation on Friday, June 7 high level government sources have disclosed.

The airline is to commence with what was yesterday revealed as a start-up special fare of N15,000 for the Lagos-Uyo, Uyo-Lagos route.

The activation of operations followed the release of the Airline Operating Licence, AOL by the National Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA on Thursday.

The airline which is commencing operation with three Bombardier CRJ-900LR aircraft that were ferried into the country last February.

However, following the arrival of the aircraft a source said that they could not commence operations immediately as they had to go through at least five different stages of tests including test flights to different airports in the country.

Ahead of the commencement of commercial flights the airline on Thursday was boasting as its marketing advantage, “clean, comfortable seating with the best legroom,” consistent on-time departures and superior world class service.”

When the airline was unveiled earlier this year, Governor Udom Emmanuel had pledged to ensure that the nation’s first state owned airline is run like a modern business and revealed that it would directly employ at least 400 persons with the potential of benefiting another 4,000 persons along the value chain.

The airline is to use the Victor Attah Airport, Uyo as its operational hub.
