Irrespective of the accord between Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, the investigations into allegations of misappropriation levelled against the traditional ruler will continue, the ombudsman carrying out the investigation said on Monday.

Briefing newsmen in Kano, the executive chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhyi Magaji affirmed that the agency was completely free from the control of the governor. He said the government did not prompt the investigation and would as such not truncate it.

Governor Ganduje had at the weekend through his spokesman announced reconciliation with the emir following what was described as interventions by Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Governor Kayode Fayemi, chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum.

But speaking at the press conference in Kano on Monday, Magaji said:

“This investigation was not commenced at the instance of the government of Kano state but as a result of series of complaints by citizens of the state.

“That by virtue of Section 8 of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission law 2008 (as amended) which provides that “in exercising its powers under this law, the Commission shall not be subjected to the direction and control of any authority.”

“That our preliminary report is only for the government to act administratively so that the Commission can continue to exercise its responsibilities without any interference and nothing more.

“That as far as the Commission is concerned this investigation is ongoing and the Commission will do everything legally possible to deliver its mandate with respect to the case.”
