Remi Tinubu’s Double Senate Record Divides Twitter Users

Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s double record as the first female senator to serve in three consecutive Senates and also as the first senator from Lagos State to serve three consecutive terms has been greeted with acclaim by Twitter users including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. However, some have responded with criticism.

While the senator has been lauded for her efforts, critical twitter users have, however, put down her unique double record to the dominance of her husband, Asiwaju Bolt Tinubu over the political polity especially in Lagos.

Senator Tinubu was on Tuesday inducted into the Women Hall of Fame when she became the first female senator to serve three straight terms in the Senate. She also at the same time became the first senator in the history of Lagos State to serve three terms.

Recognizing her double feat, the National Centre for Women Development inducted her into the Women Hall of Fame. Among those who had previously been inducted into the hall were the late Dr. Mrs. Dora Akinyuli, the first female senator, Senator Princess Franca Afegbua, the first female Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, among others.

Welcoming her induction, Senator Tinubu tweeted on Tuesday to say:

“Yesterday, I was inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame for being the first female Senator to be elected to serve in three (3) consecutive parliaments. This is only possible because of Constituents who have continued to believe me and I do not take it for granted.”

Among her notable achievements are programmes directed at removing area boys and girls from the streets in her who she dubs Good Boys and Girls from the streets through empowerment projects.

Among those who were quick to laud her achievement on twitter was Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who tweeted:

“Congratulations to our distinguished Senator @oluremitinubu on her induction into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame by the National Council of Women Society.

“Congratulations also to Senators @YAYIAdeola and Bayo Osinowo representing Lagos on the 9th @nassnigeria inauguration.”

There were several others who lauded the senator on her achievement noting that she has adequately represented the Lagos Central Constituency.

However, there were those who passed on her achievement to her husband.

Whistleblower tweeting @hollaoluwa said “Constituents ke? Abi made possible by the constituted authority of bourdillon. Give honour to whom honour is due ojare!”

Al, amin Abba tweeting at @Lilyakss also replying said: “No I think it is only possible because ur husband turned to be the jagaban of south west.”

But there were several others who congratulated the senator who she responded to by saying thanks. But ignored the critical responses.
