Kebbi: Gov Bagudu Under Fire For Refusing Christian Woman As Chief Judge

The revelation that Governor Atiku Bagudu refused the confirmation of the acting chief judge of Kebbi State because she is a Christian has elicited strong condemnation from former minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and Nigerians on cyber space.

Justice Esther Asabe Karatu had claimed in a petition that she was denied confirmation allegedly due to a conspiracy involving her immediate subordinate, the governor among others.

Justice Karatu was a Muslim before her conversion to Christianity and all her children according to her remain Muslims.

She is due for retirement on July 6 and has not been sworn in as substantive chief judge despite the fact that the House of Assembly approved her appointment

Reacting to the development on twitter on Thursday, Fani-Kayode said:

“Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state refused to confirm the Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Esther Kataru, as the substantive Chief Judge because she is a Christian.

“This is unacceptable. Nigeria is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-cultural SECULAR state had claimed in a pet.”

Gov. Bagudu is the chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Governors Forum.

Fani-Kayode’s tweet on Thursday morning had by 4.00 p.m. been retweeted 429 and received 834 likes.
