While welcoming President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to rename the Abuja National Stadium after democracy icon, MKO Abiola, Senator Shehu Sani has, however, touched very raw nerves by asking the president to henceforth use its own projects when immortalizing persons.

The dig at the administration flows from the fact that the Abuja Stadium was initiated and completed by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration. It was also a fallout from insinuations that the Buhari administration is yet to complete any project it initiated.

Senator Sani, a former member of the All Progressives Congress, APC who has sometimes pricked the administration through witty tweets in his posting on Wednesday shortly after the president’s declaration said:

“It’s important to appreciate ex President Obasanjo for constructing a stadium in Abuja befitting of being renamed to immortalize a democratic hero. I will also advice this administration to henceforth use its own completed project for ‘any more immortalization.’”

The tweet has as at 7.26 a.m. on Thursday received 3,046 likes, been retweeted 900 times and received 560 responses.

The responses have been mostly mixed with some lauding the senator and others chiding him.

A presidential aide, Tolu Ogunlesi mockingly tweeted back at Sani that the Lagos – Kano rail line would be named after Senator Sani!

“Don’t worry Sir, we will make sure the new Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Rail Line is renamed ‘Shehu Sani Line’.

“In recognition of your illustrious and indefatigable contributions to Kaduna State during the 8th Senate,” Ogunlesi tweeted.
