Police Arrest Fake Gov’s Aide Engaged In Ibom Air Job Racket

A conman posing as a clergyman and at the same time Special Assistant to the governor of Akwa Ibom State has been arrested after conning at least 100 persons with the offer of employment in Ibom Air.

He met his waterloo when his bid to also tried to swindle a journalist with a job offer exposed him. Ibom Air, the first state owned airline in the country commenced operations last less than two weeks ago.

It was gathered that the suspect who is in his mid-thirties and married with two children was arrested by SARS at the popular Emerald Lounge, Osongama Estate, Saturday June, 15, 2019, at about 10 am.

According to one of his potential victims, the clergyman had been deceiving people with the claim of being the Special Assistant to the Governor on Employment Matters.

It was gathered that he had been using Emerald Lounge as his operational base.

It was also gathered that he had already given fake employment letters to over 100 persons, while over 200 were billed to receive their letters on Monday, June 17.

“Lazarus (surname withheld) is said to have fraudulently collected from his victims between 100,000 to 250.000 to help them secure a job with Ibom Air.  However, luck ran out on him when he attempted to dupe a reporter in the state.

“On sighting the fake Ibom Air Employment Form, the journalist swiftly alerted the relevant government authorities which led to his immediate arrest on Saturday morning.

“Items recovered from the suspect include: completed forms of Ibom Air job application forms, several passport photographs, laptop used in printing the fake forms, several signed recommendation letters from the office of the governor and two Android devices”, our source narrated.
