Edo Assembly Crisis: Obaseki, Speaker Open Up
Governor Godwin Obaseki and the newly elected Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Frank Okiye have both opened up on the developments flowing from the midnight inauguration of the legislative house.
Both men in their first public utterances on the issue pledged to work with one another. That is as the camp loyal to the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was Tuesday perfecting fresh strategies to outsmart the governor and his allies.
In a statement, the governor said, with the inauguration of the Assembly, all is set for the members to commence legislative activities and perform their responsibilities to engender development across the state.
“I congratulate the 7th Assembly on their inauguration and the election of Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye as Speaker and Hon. Yekini Idiaye as Deputy Speaker. Their emergence, I am sure, will pave way for more development in the state.”
He assured on maintaining a seamless, fruitful relationship with the 7th Assembly as experienced during the 6th Assembly, noting that a cordial relationship would ensure delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.
“We are ready to work with the newly inaugurated Assembly in deepening progressive ideals in the state, ensuring that there is a close synergy to see to the delivery of policies, programmes and initiatives targeted at repositioning the state as an economic powerhouse in the country.”
Meanwhile, the newly elected Speaker in a session with newsmen in Benin pledged to work seamlessly with the governor towards promoting the interests of the state.
“I subscribe to the fact that the governor is doing well and we will partner with him along that line to do better
“So, if we all partner with ourselves not only to advice the executive through motions and bills but to be able to complement and encourage him to do more.
“The betterment of Edo State in terms of economic and security is our focal point and we intend to address that headlong”.
“So, what we will keep doing is never to allow the gap between the house members and their constituency exist anymore.
“We are very confident that once the gap is bridged, we will be able to feel directly the pulses from our local constituents and make sure it gets to the center for attention.”
