Why I Cannot Disappoint Okowa – Ebie, Delta SSG
The new Secretary to the State Government in Delta State, Barrister Chiedu Ebie has vowed not to disappoint the confidence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa under whom he said he has learnt invaluable leadership skills.
Speaking when he received Hon. Festus Okoh, member representing Ika South Constituency in the State House of Assembly and a delegation of Concerned Agbor Citizens, CAC, Ebie said he saw his appointment as an opportunity to learn more from Okowa and help contribute to the governor’s development agenda for the state.
The delegation called on Ebie to congratulate him on his appointment.
“I must be honest, I think Senator Okowa took a huge risk by appointing me a commissioner in 2015. Not many governors will take such risk. I am sure he saw intrinsic traits in me that influenced the choice.
“There is no way you can work with Senator Okowa and fail except you are a slow learner. I have leant a lot of leadership skills from the him. I am happy with the people of Ika South for the immense support.
“On this new position, I want to assure you that I will neither disappoint you nor the governor and my family. All I ask for is support.
While assuring that he would endeavour to sustain the ongoing infrastructural development in his area, Barr Ebie bemoaned the retrogressive political infighting, blackmail and mudslinging among the political class in his local government area.
Earlier, the chairman of the group, Mr. Echi Obue, while congratulating the SSG on his appointment, appealed to him not to betray the confidence reposed in him by Gov Ifeanyi Okowa, stressing that his emergence has shown the respect the governor has for Agbor people.
“We have come to remind you that you have your job cut out for you. When your tenure records success and encomiums, you are not to savour them alone. We are waiting to enjoy the feel good. If you however fail in the given assignment, it rubs off on the man who appointed you, your party, your family and friends. Above all, when you do not deliver on the given mandate, the Agbor people will receive the flaks more.
“We are confident that when the books of secretaries of state government are opened for evaluation, you will stand top”.
The chairman said though the entire Delta State remains the constituency of the secretary, he must ensure lasting solutions to the myriad of challenges confronting his Agbor people.
“You are well aware of the challenges our people face. These challenges include dysfunctional public amenities, growing menace of heinous crimes including kidnapping, rape, drug and substance abuse as well as frightening rate of unemployment. We are grateful that Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has genuinely recognised our problems. It is your duty with that of Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh to sustain the momentum.”
The group specifically appealed to the secretary to facilitate the upgrade of the College of Education, Agbor, to a full fledged university as well as the State School of Nursing also in Agbor to College of Nursing.
Other members at the courtesy visit were Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, Mr. Williams Eghebi, Mr. Joe Morgan, Hon Fred Ofume, Mr. Jude Oyibo, Engr. Lawrence Onahor, Mr. Charles Ekpenisi, Mr. Phillip Igumbor, Mr. Benedict Ebede and Barr Ndidi Ofume
