COZA Rape Allegations: CAN Probes Fatoyinbo

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has launched an investigation into the allegation of rape levelled against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo it claimed late on Saturday.

CAN president Dr. Samson Ayokunle in a statement said the body had directed its Pentecostal bloc to follow up on the investigation even as he affirmed that the Christian body is wholly against rape which it described as ungodly, wicked, and reprehensible.

However, while noting that the allegations were presently in the realm of social media, CAN said it was not in a position to presently question the moral fibre of the accused Fatoyinbo.

Fatoyinbo, founder and global senior pastor of COZA had lately been accused by Busola Dakolo of raping her when she was a teenager. Besides her, a number of other ladies had also accused Fatoyinbo of rape with one daring him not to come up with a defence otherwise she would come up with the evidence including picture of him in a towel.

But responding to the brouhaha in a statement after initially pulling away, CAN president, Ayokunle in a statement issued by his special assistant on media, Pastor Bayo Oladeji said:

“The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as a body, condemns any case of rape in strong terms, it doesn’t matter who is involved. It is ungodly, wicked, and reprehensible.

“However, on the allegations against Pastor Tolu Fatoyinbo, we have no details about the matter other than what we are reading and hearing from from the social media, this is not reliable and credible evidence enough to jump into a conclusion.

“The CAN Leadership, therefore, has reached out to the leadership of the block which the Pastor in question belongs with a view to getting to the root of the matter. This will help us to make the right decision on the issue.”
