APC Rewards Ganduje, Makes His ‘Man’ Reps Leader
By Politics Editor
Ado Doguwa, the choice of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State is to be the next leader of the House of Representatives partly in recognition of the massive votes the governor directed to the party in the last General Election.
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC announced this on Monday.
Receiving a delegation from Kano State led by the deputy governor of the state, Nasiru Gawuna.
He also at the same time poured encomiums on APC members for deferring to the party and President Muhammadu Buhari on the choices made for them in choosing their next leaders.
Recognizing the role that Kano returned the highest votes for the party in the last elections, the party chairman said:
“It is those numbers that made us win the Presidency. Without that numbers, we won’t be in the office. Incidentally, I reflect between the President’s vote and the first runner up, Atiku.
“It is about 3.8 million. If you delete Kano votes from that, the votes will come down. If parts of those votes swing to the other side… so, no one can downplay the value of the support this party enjoys from the good people of Kano State as represented by you Honourables.
“To whom much is given, much is expected, Kano has given us a lot as a party, has given a lot to our President and we must therefore reciprocate.
“We also appreciate the leadership that Governor Ganduje has provided. Not only in terms of governing Kano State but also his contribution to strengthen the APC. He has handled very sensitive national assignment for the party to help it conduct elections.”
While it had been apparent that the choice of the next leader would go to Kano State, Doguwa was in a stiff competition with another candidate for the position despite being the chief whip in the 8th House of Representatives.
The decision, however, went his way through the intervention of Governor Ganduje who backed him for the position.
