Evans Told He Must Face Trial As Appeal Court Dismisses His Pleas
Celebrated kidnap kingpin has been told that he must face his trial for murder, attempted murder and kidnap as the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Monday dismissed all three appeals he lodged at the appellate court.
Evans, real names, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike had filed three different appeals at the court seeking to dismiss the charges against him at the Lagos High Court on the premise of lack of jurisdiction.
The three-man panel of Justice Jummai Sankey, Justice Philomena Ekpe and Justice Muhammed Mustapha affirmed that all appeals lodged by Evans were without merit.
Evans is one of the country’s most celebrated kidnappers allegedly claiming billions in ransom from his victims.
He met his waterloo in 2017 after a long vigil by the police in Lagos.
Evans was first charged in 2017 at the Lagos High Court before Justice Toyin Taiwo but he raised an application to dismiss the charges for lack of jurisdiction. The application was dismissed by the trial judge which set the scene for the appeals that were dismissed on Monday.
