Edo: APC Chiefs Fight Over Suspension Of Osifo, Oshiomhole’s Key Ally
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The crisis in the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has temporarily shifted towards Washington Osifo, spokesman of the Adams Oshiomhole led group of members-elect of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osifo was suspended upon a resolution of the Uhunwonde Local Government Area executive of the party last weekend.
The action has, however, been dismissed by some other high ranking party chieftains from the Local Government Area including former governorship aspirant, Chief Solomon Edebiri and erstwhile member of the House of Representatives, Barrister Samson Osagie.
The APC chieftains made the refutal in a press briefing at the Uhunwode LGA Secretariat, describing the alleged suspension of Hon. Washington Osifo as the will of some minority executive members and not the wishes of Uhunwode people.
Hon. Washington Osifo, the spokesperson of the 13 Edo Assembly members- elect loyal to the National Chairman of All Progressive Congress, Adams Oshiomole, was said to have been suspended for going against party rules.
Gwg.ng had earlier reported the suspension of Hon. Washington Osifo https://gwg.ng/2019/06/29/edo-apc-crisis-oshiomholes-key-ally-suspended/
The press briefing was attended by key APC chieftains in Uhunwode like Barr. Samson Osagie, Chief Solomon Edebiri, Barr. Hope Iyare, Endeley Igbinezaka (Secretary, Uhunwode LGA), Barr. Uyi Ediale and some APC members, numbering over 52 in attendance.
The Uhumwode APC chieftains present unanimously noted that the alleged suspension of Osifo is against some sections of the party constitution, alleging that the some signatures in the suspension letter disseminated were forged.
Speaking at the press briefing, Chief Solomon Edebiri, a former Gubernatorial candidate in Edo State, noted that there was no meeting in Uhunwode to suspend Hon. Washington Osifo.
“Consistently, we must stand for what is right. There was no meeting in Uhunwode to suspend Bar. Osifo, there will never be any meeting like that in Uhunwode. ” He said.
Reacting to this claim, the Chairman of APC in Uhunwode LGA, Johnson Omoruyi reaffirmed the suspension of Hon. Washington Osifo, while addressing Journalists in Benin, yesterday.
