Polling Officials Counter INEC, Say They Transmitted Election Results To Server

Polling officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the 2019 presidential election on Monday rebutted claims by the commission that the results of the election were not electronically transmitted as they claimed that they were trained to and did electronically transmit the results.

The INEC officials were joined by a long-time associate of President Buhari, Alhaji Buba Galadima as witnesses by the PDP in its petition against the return of Buhari as winner of the 2019 presidential election at the Presidential Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Among the witnesses called by the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Monday was Mr. Peter Obi, no relation to Atiku’s running mate, who was a Registration Area Technician in Rivers State.

Mr. Obi in his testimony told the tribunal that he and other INEC officials were duly trained on how to electronically transmit the results. He said that it was wrong of anyone to say that the results were not transmitted.

His claims were collaborated byAdejuyitan Olalekan and Adedokun Adeoye who served as Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officers respectively.

Both men said that they were trained and also did transmit the results of the election through codes that were supplied to them by INEC.

Another witness, Mohammed Tata who was an agent of the PDP but a participant in the Federal Government sponsored N-Power programme said he was compelled to sign the result and that he was threatened that he would be withdrawn from the N-Power project if he refused to succumb.

“I was harassed and intimidated to sign the result sheet under duress. I was told that if I refuse to sign, my name will be removed from the N-Power Programme,” Tata said adding that there was no election in his area.

“I am a Muslim. I believe in destiny and what God decides will happen. Whether PDP win or the APC, I don’t have a problem with that. All I want is that I need justice in my country. I don’t care whether my party won or lost, but I am not happy about what happened”.

Galadima also in his testimony to the tribunal rejected claims by the APC counsels that he fell out with Buhari because he was not made a minister in the government after 2015.

“We made good promises to Nigerians, including justice, inclusiveness and to secure the country, which he has failed to do. It has always been part of my characteristics to fight injustice,” he said in justification of his opposition to a second term for Buhari.
