Shehu Sani Calls Out Osinbajo: These Are The Saboteurs Of Our Refineries

Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to a comment by Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo on why Nigeria’s four refineries are crippled.

The vice-president while serving as acting president in 2017 had said that the refineries are unable to work maximally because they were government owned.

Osinbajo speaking at the 2017 African Modular Refinery Discussion organised by the Modular Refiners Association of Nigeria (MRAN) in Abuja had cited government’s involvement in the running of the refineries as the reason for the crippling of the refineries.

“Government cannot just go and be setting up refineries. If government sets up refineries and uses its people to run it, it won’t work. We have good examples in all the refineries that we have seen,” he said.

“If you look at the refineries we have today – Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna – the primary reason they are not working today is because they are government run.”

Two years after with the government unable to fulfil its promise of stopping the importation of fuel, Senator Sani on Sunday went to twitter to call out the vice-president on the real people he believes are sabotaging the refineries.

The five categories of people listed by Sani as sabotaging Nigeria’s refining capacity in the downstream petroleum sector are:

  • Those who want them sold
  • Those who want to buy them
  • Importers of petroleum products
  • Those who benefit from importation
  • The Turn Around Maintenance Gang!
