Obaseki Taunts Oshiomhole’s Men: We Are Waiting For You
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has flayed legislators from the state in the House of Representatives who moved for the take over of the Edo State House of Assembly saying they will return home to face the music for their action.
He affirmed that the people of the state were waiting and resolved not to fear.
The Governor spoke in the course of a solidarity rally in Benin on Thursday that was followed by what was termed as a One Million Man Match in support of his administration.
The governor has been enmeshed in a faceoff with his immediate predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that is presently being played out in the House of Assembly.
According to him: ” Those people who are parading themselves on the internet and everywhere on behalf of Edo people are for themselves and their pockets. We are watching you.
“Those of you who have gone outside to Abuja to say people from outside should come and invade Edo, to come and seize our House of Assembly. We are waiting for you. We have no fear at all. We are resolve to see what is best for our state and our people. We have no doubt that we are on the right course. We know God is with us.
“I have already created 100,000 jobs in two and the half years. We are not there yet. What I will not do as a governor, what I will not do as an Edo man, is to chop the seed yam. The seed yam is for cultivation. The little money we have today, I will not allow anybody chop it. That money is to be invested in the future of our children in this country. This is the fight and struggle.”
“We are tired of our children being short changed. After 20 years of democracy, we cannot continue to behave as if we do not have democracy. They want to pull us out early. INEC has not come out with timetable for Edo elections yet, they only came out with Kogi and Bayelsa States, even in those States where they have calendars, the polity of those states are not heated like Edo States,” Obaseki said.
Obaseki, nevertheless, called on the people of Edo State to be calm and maintain peace in order to facilitate progress and development of the state, noting that no body can stop the progress of Edo people.
The solidarity rally was graced by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, National Union of Local Government Employees, Trade Union, Nigerian Union of Teachers and Market women.
The climax of the rally was a one-million man march for Obaseki, across the streets of Benin City.
