Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has responded to protests by some activists like Charly Boy over his presumed silence on issues agitating the nation.

Some protesters including Charly Boy had few days ago protested at the Redemption Camp against what they claimed was the failure of Adeboye to bring his influence to bear in addressing the situation in the country.

Among the issues that the protesters claimed that they wanted Adeboye to speak on are the spate of insecurity in the land, the continued detention of Leah Sharibu among other things.

Adeboye has since been defended by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN and the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN both of which claimed that the general overseer has been subscribing to their views on national issues.

Speaking for himself through a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the RCCG, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi he said that the two bodies speak for him even as he claimed that he has been praying on the issues.

He said:

“The aforementioned Christian bodies had spoken on the issues of kidnapping, killing of Christians, herdsmen attacks and general insecurity in Nigeria and his position and that of the RCCG was not different from their expressed views.

“Adeboye who said that, to be quiet does not mean that you are silent, disclosed that he had made his views on the issues known to all the relevant authorities. He declared that very soon, Nigerians shall see that God answers prayers. He enjoined all to remain calm and maintain the peace.

“The RCCG leader had always called the congregation to prayers against kidnapping, bloodshed and general insecurity at the monthly all-night Holy Ghost Service held at the Redemption Camp.

“Pastor Adeboye led the congregation in supplication for God’s mercy on Nigeria after speaking on the negative consequences of bloodshed and inhumanity,” the statement read.
