A final year student of Actuarial Science, Faculty of Management Science, University of Benin simply identified as Ephraim reportedly committed suicide allegedly following depressions over challenges his challenges in his academics.

The boy reportedly committed suicide by throwing himself down from the Faculty of Arts, three storey building complex on Sunday evening.

According to eye witnesses, the deceased, Ephraim, jumped down from the third flour of the popular faculty complex at the Faculty of Arts complex while walking in accompany of friends, who had earlier tried to discourage him away from suicide.

According to reports, the deceased had been depressed after being on probation for two consecutive years, having spilled over due to courses he was yet to fulfil before graduation.

The reports also had it that the deceased was having issues with his landlord in his off campus residence at Ekosodin, a faceoff that allegedly forced him to go to the faculty that evening.

GWG gathered that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the University of Benin main Clinic, Ugbowo.

When GWG visited the faculty, it was learnt that the ongoing first semester examination has been postponed till further notice in the faculty, as result of the occurrence.

GWG also gathered that lecturers in the faculty have been called for an urgent meeting in order to investigate the circumstances behind the occurrence.

This is the fourth case of suicide in UNIBEN in the space of one year after barely four weeks that one Christabel Buoro committed suicide after drinking snipper in her off-the-campus residence at Ekosodin.

However, when GWG contacted the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Michael Osayuki he did not respond to calls sent to his known mobile phone.
