Edo: Who Is The Lesser Evil, Godfather Or Godson?
By Edoko Wilson Edoko
Going by the recent happenings in the Edo state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) between the erstwhile governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki, it has become expedient to conduct a critical post mortem on the said crisis soon to consume the already drowning APC ship in Edo State.
Whether you like it or not, there isn’t no difference between the aspiring godfather and his godson. However, a lot of political bullets have been flying between aggrieved members of both camps with drums of war renting the air.
Those who seem to have gone back to their vomits, criticising their former messiah should be applauded for telling Edo people the truth which has consistently been the song on the lips of the opposition party in the state, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
But if I may ask is Obaseki the lesser evil compared to the father of “Say no to godfatherism”, Oshiomhole? To me the answer is NO! Elevating Obaseki above Oshiomhole is like saying it is better to commit suicide by taking a drink of sniper than jumping from a ten (10) storey building, both of which are suicidal to a sane mind.
Assuming there was no love lost between the duo will Obaseki threaten Oshiomhole with the probe of the five star accident and emergency ward of the central hospital built by him with over N10.27Billion? Was Obaseki not a major player in his predecessor’s administration?
Who was the Chairman of Oshiomhole’s Economic Team? Will Obaseki also probe Oshiomhole regarding the abandoned Benin storm water project which is now a huge threat to the environment health of the state which Obaseki’s company, Afrivest played a very integral role in?
Will the ” Wake and Sleep” Governor, also muster the courage to probe the Edo University built under mysterious circumstances situated directly opposite Oshiomhole’s residence at Iyamoh, which also Afrivest, a company owned by the current governor spearheaded the entire arrangement?
I am particularly ashamed of those who seem to have realized suddenly that the Governor is a Benin man even with the closure of College of Education or Tayo Akpata University, Ekiadolor and College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi. Are these institutions domiciled in Oshiomhole’s domain or Obaseki’s backyard? How well has he been able to protect the Benin interest with the closure of these schools?
He who comes to equity must do so with very clean hands; Are Obaseki’s hands clean? Obaseki can’t be separated or exonerated from the high-level allegations of corruption perpetuated under Oshiomhole’s government?
Moving forward, now is the time to look above political sentiments and emancipate Edo people from the incompetence of Oshiomhole/Obaseki and usher in a fresh air of prosperity.
