The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN proscribed by the Federal Government is not anyway near as deadly as the Fulani herdsmen supposedly covered by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, constitutional lawyer, Barrister Mike Ozekhome fumed on Saturday.

Describing the action as discriminatory aimed at promoting the Sunni Muslim sect over the Shite faction, Ozekhome accused President Muhammadu Buhari of using state powers to promote his personal agenda in all fronts.

He spoke following revelations that the government had proscribed the body that has lately been in the news over its demonstrations in the federal capital. The demonstrations are directed towards bringing focus to the nearly four year detention of the leader of the Shite movement in the country, Sheikh El-Zakzaky.

“What group could be more terrorist than the herdsmen and their known anchor,Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association?

“The Shi’ite group is a religious group, like the President’s Sunmi group. It us not an association that could be banned. Section 10 of the Nigerian constitution makes Nigeria a secular state. You can’t ban religion, a people’s belief.

“There is also freedom of thought, conscience and religion in section 38, while sections 40 and 41 allow for freedom of movement and association.”

While observing what he described as the president’s violations of the country’s laws, he said that “the constitution is ruthlessly being shredded by an intolerant and overbearing civilian dictatorship that has held Nigeria down by the jugular for years, killing, maiming, burning, raping and turning Nigeria into a crimson field of bloodbath.”
