August 5 Protests: Ohanaeze Youths Send Warning To PDP, Opposition Leaders
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has charged opposition political leaders to distance themselves from the planned August 5 Revolution Now saying that the protest is a plot to foist anarchy in the land.
The group in a statement issued by its president-general, Mazi
Ugochukwu Isuguzoro nevertheless urged President Muhammadu Buhari to cause the immediate release of Omoyele Sowore, one of the major organisers of the planned protest. He said that failing to do so would make the activist into a hero.
Calling on the opposition to distance itself from the protest, the Igbo group said:
“We call on the Opposition to distance themselves from the Revolution Now Protests proposed from Monday 5th August, as any civil disobedience and Disturbances is a whirlwind that will not blow anyone good.
“We will make sure none of them escape from the country if they choose to set the country ablaze no politician will escape it, the Youths are angry and not empowered, so it will be very easy to get them to be on the streets expressing their anger through Violent Protests, but we plead for calm, and urge President Muhammadu Buhari to do the needful and save Nigeria from total collapse and stop the ” Days of Rage “through the support for National Youth Dialogue.”
“We urge the Federal Government to avoid Use of Confrontation on the Revolution Now Protests and avert the revolution Now through Unconditional release of the AAC Presidential Candidate Sowore from detention as a strategy to nip the bud of any possibly uprising brewing in some quarters.
“AAC Presidential Candidate Sowore will be made a hero, if he continued to be in detention, as such violent Protests is what is aimed to attract the sympathy of the international Community and discredit President Muhammadu Buhari’s second Tenure and the safety of Igbos scattered all over the country will not be guaranteed, and it’s of Paramount importance to us.”
