One of the governorship aspirants in the Kogi State governorship election slated for November 16, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Simeon Maha has attributed his decision to pull out of the race to the outrageous nomination fee charged by the party.

Maha described the N24m fixed for both expression of interest and the nomination fee by the former ruling party as unbelievable.

He said, “Even in the last presidential election, the party did not charge so much amount of money for its aspirants. This is an indication that the party would continue to encourage money bags to dominate the political space.

“I don’t think some of us that have our names to protect can be part of what is going on at the moment.”

Maha who was the former chairman of Dekina local government area further stressed that the attitude of the electorate  has not encouraged decency in the practice of the game.

“Majority of the electorate are only interested in what aspirants can give them and not what they can do if voted into power”.  The action he said would continue hinders the state from moving forward.

Though Maha claimed he is still in politics, he said he is waiting for any other opportunity where he can contribute to the development of the state.
