El-Rufai’s 2023 Proposal Gets Strong Bashing From Ohanaeze

The Youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has faulted a statement of abolition of zoning arrangement for 2023 Presidency credited to Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nashir El Rufai, saying that the governor is blinded by his presidential ambition.

El Rufai had called on the leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC, to abolish the zoning formula for the presidency.

El-Rufai’s assertions was upon insinuations, that the APC might have zoned the 2023 presidency to the Southwest with the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the frontline.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth in its reactions observed that El-Rufai’s suggestion was directed at thwarting the opportunity for a Nigerian president of Igbo stock in 2023.

The group, in a statement by its President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro debunked the insinuations that the North might negotiate support with South East region for the RUGA settlement, in exchange of an Igbo presidency, while describing the insinuation as a total fallacy. 

According to the group, “El Rufai was a major beneficiary of zoning arrangement in 2015 Guber elections in Kaduna, now wants to thwat the glaring opportunities for a Nigerian President of Igbo stock in 2023, we are aware that El Rufai wants to be the running mate to a Christian Pastor and Professor of law, who is studying the body language of the President to know how to navigate the storm at the appropriate time.

“We wish to debunk any insinuation and fears, in some quarters that the North will use Suspended Ruga settlements as a bait to negotiate with Southern Nigeria especially Igbos on 2023 Igbo Presidency project in exchange for Ruga settlements as not only a huge joke but total fallacy, from assurances from credible and prominent Northern groups, what is expected of Igbos is to bring on the best Presidential material either a Sitting Governor or a former Governor from the South East that will rejig Nigeria’s potentials  back on track as truly as Giant of Africa not standing on mosquitoes legs.”
