Magu Urges Students To Be Change Agents

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has charged Nigerian students to uphold the right values of discipline, accountability, and shun every act of criminality.

Magu stated this on Friday, August 16, 2019 when he received executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, who paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Office of the Commission.

The EFCC boss who was represented by the Benin Zonal Head, Muhtar Bello, said Nigerian students should be at the vanguard of promoting the right values and be agent of change. “If the youths can be agent of change, the society will have no option but to embrace change.”

He commended the NANS officials for appreciating the efforts of the Commission in the fight against corruption and for seeking to collaborate with the Commission in tackling cybercrimes and internet fraud.

The acting chairman told the students that the EFCC were receptive to collaborating with NANS in engaging with Nigeria students on the ills of corruption and it’s consequences on the larger society. “Youths are the ones that are mostly involved in cybercrimes.  Fighting economic and financial crimes should be the responsibility of every patriotic Nigerian, but people think it is the work of EFCC alone. EFCC needs the collaboration of all stakeholders in the fight against corruption”. 

He urged the student’s leaders to, “Go back and communicate this message to your fellow students to always engage in legitimate dealing and shun criminal activities. Young people need to change their perception about how to make money. There is no free money anywhere”.

Comrade Jackson Osahan Ebhote, Director of Planning and Mobilisation, who led other executive members, commended the efforts of the Commission in the fight against corruption.  “We are here to show solidarity and to familiarize ourselves with your office. Corruption is to be dealt with decisively both by the government and individuals. We want a synergy between NANS and the EFCC”. Other members of NANS executives in the team are Comrades Abudulahi Tahir, BUK, Zone A; Salami Afekhefe, UNIPORT Zone B; E Osbon, FUTO, Owerri, Zone E and Joseph Momodu, Kogi State Polytechnic,  Zone C.
