By Editor
THE presidency has queried the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Tunde Fowler over the underperformance of the tax receipt projections for the period 2015 to 2017.
The presidency is miffed that based on the projections as given by Fowler that the tax receipt for the period was lower than the performance between 2012 and 2014 during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
The query dated 8th August, 2019 with the subject “Re-Budgeted FIRS Collections and Actual Collections”, was issued by the chief of staff to the president, Mr. Abba Kyari.
Fowler is expected to respond to the query latest Monday, 19th August, 2019.
Noting that the realizations between 2015 to 2017, describing them as “worse than what was collected between 2012 and 2014.”
The query is based on the fact that the FIRS within the three year period underperformed as compared to a similar three year period within the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
“From 2010 to 2014, the FIRS surpassed its targets for each year. From 2015 to date, the FIRS failed to meet its targets every year,” a presidential source told Vanguard.
“So the idea of the letter is for him to explain the situation as raised by the records he presented. It’s for him to speak, not the Presidency.”
