Dep Gov Shaken
By Editor
Three policemen and a civilian in the convoy of the deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, were killed on Tuesday night when gunmen opened fire on the convoy.
The deputy governor who was not touched was, however, seriously shaken after the bodies of his protectors were deposited at the mortuary in Lafia.
The deputy governor was on his way to Abuja from Lafia when the gunmen who had been attacking other motorists engaged his convoy somewhere in Akwanga.
A source said the incident happened in a meandering portion of the Akwanga – Lafia road popularly known as “Many Have Gone.”
Because of the meandering nature of the road, motorists are compelled to slow down especially as the portion is in between deep valleys.
One source said the security men in the deputy governor’s convoy were forced to engage the robbers but were unsuccessful in overcoming them on account of the superior weapons wielded by the bandits.
In the ensuing shootout, at least four persons in the convoy of the deputy governor were killed.
