The Adams Oshiomhole led leadership of the All Progressives Congress APC has put aside objections to a fresh congress in Rivers State by Senator Magnus Abe as it on Friday appointed a 5-member executive caretaker committee for the Rivers State chapter of the party.

The minister of transportation and leader of the party in the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi had recently called for fresh congresses in the state to position the party for the future.

His call was immediately countered by Senator Abe who in a session with some media men had said:

“The Minister of Transportation on assuming office and the first thing he did was to announce congress in Rivers APC. And I ask myself, this was the same kind of behavior that led the party to where it is.

“Everybody in Nigeria knows that the origin of crisis in APC was from the congress and how the congress was handled.

“And now, he’s announcing another congress. What congress is he announcing? Is he the chairman of the party. Is he the National Working Committee of the party, is he the court?

But rejecting Abe’s objections, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu in a statement Friday in Abuja said the caretaker committee which is to oversee the Party’s affairs in the state will be chaired by Barr. Isaac Abott Ogbobula.

Other members are: Mr. Friday Kinika Owhor, Mrs. Beatrice Amobi, Prince Abolo Stephen and Mr. Baridon Badom (Secretary).

“The APC NWC has also approved the schedule of activities/timetable for the conduct of ward, local government and state congresses in Rivers as follows: Tuesday 17th September, 2019 – Ward Congresses. Wednesday 18th – Friday 20th September, 2019 – Appeals arising from Ward Congresses. Saturday 21st September, 2019 – LGA Congresses

“Monday 23rd – Wednesday 25th September, 2019 – Appeals arising from State Congresses. Saturday 28th September, 2019 – State Congresses. Monday 30th September –

Wednesday 2nd October, 2019 – Appeals arising from State Congresses” he added.

Abe is yet to respond to the development.
