Stakeholders Warn Dickson Over Bayelsa PDP Ticket

Published

on

Party members including stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State have raised doubts on the sincerity of Governor Seriake Dickson to hold a stakeholders’ meeting to resolve the crisis rocking the party following the choice of its running mate for the November 16 governorship election in the state.

Party members, groups and other stakeholders descended heavily on Dickson and the PDP leadership for nominating a Senator representing Bayelsa West at the National Assembly, Senator Lawrence Ewrujakpor, as the running mate to the party’s candidate, Senator Douye Diri.

Critics of the nominee accused Dickson of driving a selfish agenda to replace Ewrujakpor, who hails from his Sagbama Local Government Area, at the Senate in exchange for the running mate slot against all political permutation by the PDP to win the forthcoming poll.

Others insisted that the governor was blinded by his ambition, which they said was against his earlier principles of equity, balance and fairness and appealed to the governor to take the slot to Bayelsa East and consider giving it to Ogbia, the local government area of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Following the hullabaloo generated by the decision, Dickson promised to convene a stakeholders’ meeting to review the decision within the timeframe of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for substitution of candidates.

But party leaders were worried that a day to the expiration of the INEC September 23 deadline for substitution of candidates, the governor had yet to fix a date for the stakeholders’ meeting.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan was said to have waited for the stakeholders’ meeting and left the state in anger.

A PDP leader, who spoke in confidence, said there was no possibility of holding the meeting adding that Dickson only made the proposal to douse tension that erupted in the party following his choice of Ewrujakpor.

He said even if the governor managed to convene a meeting, it would be mere formality as his cronies would be positioned to shoot down any opposition against his chosen running mate.

He said: “The governor’s proposal for a stakeholders’ meeting was a smart but deceptive move. He discovered that the PDP was having many backlashes following his choice of a running mate. Having observed that the opposition was too loud, he decided to douse the tension by proposing the meeting. But by all indications, he has made up his mind on Erwujakpor.

“He has set his sight on the Senate and we are suspecting that there is a secret agreement that Erwujakpor should resign from his seat as a condition for the running mate slot. Therefore, even if the PDP loses the governorship election, the governor will still contest the senatorial election to replace Erwujakpor before handing over in February 14.

“But even if he eventually holds the stakeholders’ meeting, it will be a mere formality. His foot soldiers will be positioned at such meetings to endorse Ewrujakpor. The governor believes that he can still win with Ewrujakpor.

“I can assure you that any attempt to allow the senator from Dickson’s local government area as a running mate is a calculated attempt to hand over the state to the opposition. We cannot win that election because it doesn’t make sense and the people of Bayelsa are not fools. Some people are telling the governor that he will win, but they are lying to him.

“If you lose the entire Bayelsa East, how do you expect to win an election with Kolokuma-Opokuma that has the least number of votes in the state; Yenagoa, that is legendary for dry voting or is the governor banking only on his Sagbama vote?

“If the governor is serious with this election, he should take the running mate to the East to ensure balancing. He must purge himself of his senatorial ambition first to see clearly and help the PDP unless he wants to be the last PDP governor in the state”.

But other party leaders, who described Dickson as a listening governor, said the governor would change his mind on Ewrujakpor and seek his substitution before the end of the INEC timeline.

Party stakeholders including members of the Bayelsa East Forum for Justice (BEFJ) appealed to Dickson to save the PDP from imminent destruction at the poll by changing his mind on his choice of running mate.

The BEFJ commended Dickson for his decision to review the choice of Erwujakpor, saying everybody was waiting for the meeting,

Chairman of BEFJ, Monday Eribo, said the governor by deciding to convene the meeting, had again proved that he was a leader that listened to genuine complaints.

He said for listening to the loud outcry against the intended running mate, Dickson endeared himself to the heart of loyal members of the party, who were ready to stand with him till the end of his tenure.

Eribo urged the leaders and stakeholders invited for the meeting to look at the issue of running mate dispassionately and ensure that it was zoned to the East.

Eribo, a former three-time Commissioner in the State Local Government Service Commission, appealed to the stakeholders to ensure the selection of a competent person from the East before the expiration of the INEC deadline.

He said: “What the candidate of the PDP for the November 16 governorship election, Senator Douye Diri needs is someone who enjoys the support of not only Ogbia people but people across the state and it must be someone who is very committed to the Restoration agenda.

“Picking someone from the East, particularly Ogbia will be a mark of honour and respect to former President Goodluck Jonathan and will balance the political equation in the state.

“We thank individuals and groups who came out to voice their concerns over the choice of Senator Lawrence Ehrudjakpor, saying history will never forget them, as they spoke up when it mattered most”.

Other party chieftains warned that the PDP was at the verge of collapsing if after the September 23 the meeting failed to hold to substitute the running mate.

“What will hit PDP is an exodus beyond imagination. Those that will remain in the party will stay there to work against the governor and bring his leadership to an end. Everybody is waiting for the stakeholders’ meeting”, a source, who spoke in confidence said.

Kogi APC: Yahaya Bello Speaks On Suspension Of NWC Member

Yahaya Bello sacks aide

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has urged governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state to focus on their strengths in wooing party members as he Saturday called for caution following the crisis triggered by the suspension of a member of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC Murtala Yakubu.

He warned against divisive tendencies that could jeopardise the interest of the party and undermine the peace and unity that the ruling party had been known for in the state under his leadership.

Governor Bello said this in a statement on Saturday morning, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications in the state, Kingsley Fanwo.

He was specifically reacting to the seeming back and forth on the suspension of a member of the APC National Working Committee from the state, Hon. Murtala Yakubu.

While wishing all the governorship aspirants a successful screening exercise, he reiterated that the party would ensure a fair playing ground for the best candidate to emerge in the primary election and expressed the confidence that APC would win the governorship election with a wide margin in November.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has been drawn to series of publications on the suspension or not of a member of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State, Hon. Murtala Yakubu.

“The Governor, as the leader of our great party in Kogi State, warns against bickering that can undermine the peace and unity that the APC has been known for under his leadership. He has therefore directed all aspirants in the forthcoming governorship primaries in the state to focus on their strengths in wooing party members and refrain from divisive tendencies in the interest of the party.

“Our party will ensure a fair playing ground for the best candidate to emerge in the primary election and together we shall win the governorship election, with a wide margin, in November.

“Governor Yahaya Bello wishes all aspirants successful screening,” the Kogi commissioner said on the heels of the crisis triggered by the reported suspension of the APC NWC member.

A Readiness To Host Jesus Coming As A Stranger

Published

on

By

And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee. Judges 13:15.

Here, we see the urge of Mr. Manoah to play host to the angel.

In verse 16 we would observe that as at this point the Manoahs didn’t know that they were dealing with an angel or with God.

They were just going about their life, doing the good that was part of their routine.

Now, observe, they didn’t need to make an extra effort to host the visitor.

As Christian’s we should be ready at all times to be able to discharge the responsibility of the faith we have.

We should have room for Jesus whenever He beckons or comes calling.

You would observe that Mrs. Manoah was in her office (field) verse 9 when the visitor came, yet she was at a go, ready to host the visitor.

That should be our state, wherever and whenever, we should be ready to discharge the responsibility that may come to us when God comes calling.

Love In Sharing With Family

Published

So the woman RAN QUICKLY and TOLD her husband, “Behold, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me.” Judges 13:10 (ESV)

The promptness with which Mrs. Manoah communicated the latest development is signposted by the action words in the first part of this verse: RAN, QUICKLY, TOLD.

She ran quickly and confided in her own husband, underpinning the fact that they were joint heirs of the grace of God.

Once the angel appeared, to her in her field (office, shop) she hurriedly closed shop, and you can imagine gazes from business partners, friends, former suitors, family asking why Mrs. Manoah was running quickly.

She told none, until she got to her husband and told him.

Why? Because they are joint-heirs of the grace being given.

She ran and was quick to tell her husband of her latest increase in grace.

Spouses should be so guided to communicate grace unto one another. It should also be so among family.

God’s Grace Is A Joint Inheritance In Families

Published

on

By

And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her. Judges 13:9.

Here we are told that God harkened to the VOICE, that is, the prayer of Mr. Manoah by again appearing to his wife.

Now, we see that God can respond to a man by bringing favour to his wife or vice versa especially when the couple are in unity.

Mr. Manoah was the one who prayed but the angelic visitation was upon his wife!

The wife can also be the one praying and God would be blessing and pouring grace and favour to the husband.

When a partner in marriage receives grace it should be seen as a common inheritance of the couple as was demonstrated here by Mr. and Mrs. Manoah.

The partner in the marriage should also be open about the grace that comes from God as Mrs. Manoah was in declaring all that the Lord blessed her with during the angelic visitation.

May the Lord grant us grace in that direction in Jesus Name, Amen.

God Teach Us To Manage Grace

Published

on

By

Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. Judges 13:8.

We see here how Mr. Manoah received the news of the birth of a child to the family.

Now, he received the news with faith. He was a believing man, who was united with his wife in bearing the burden of her barreness now about to share in the birth pangs!!!!

He asks of the Lord how the child would be brought up.

Now, observe. Parents must seek God’s grace and will in the matter of child upbringing.

It’s a tripartite affair between the two parents and God with God giving the inspiration on the programme and policy for each child.

Mr Manoah requests of God that He should teach US, that’s the two of them, how the child should be brought up.

No single parent should tend to have the lordship in child upbringing; it’s a joint affair under God.

Now just as the parents are united in the matter of child upbringing, they should do in all other issues that would come their way.

This morning we should ask God to TEACH us to manage all the grace that He is bringing into our lives.

Beloved, you can get an inkling in this direction of the stewardship of God’s grace at a gathering of God’s people somewhere near you.

Dear, go!

Angelic Visitations: A Man Of God Visits Mrs. Manoah

Published

on

By

Offering Prophet's

Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A MAN of GOD came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an ANGEL of GOD, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name: Judges 13:6.

The angel of God who appeared to Mrs. Manoah apparently came in the form of a man. It has also been suggested that this appearance was God in the Second Person, and that is Jesus the Christ.

We have had such appearances before as when He appeared to Abraham (Genesis 18:1-3).

She also recounted that the appearance was like an angel, but in the form of a man. So, this angel  did not have wings as has been generally depicted of angels.

That’s why we are again cautioned not to be restrained in receiving visitors for some Angels come as visitors. You would have heard the term angelic visitation.

An angelic visitation could come directly to you and if not, be around you. So, be careful not to misbehave!!!

Now, observe, she said His countenance was terrible, meaning dreadful, fearful, awesome.

It reminds us of the effect of a visit of the Reverend Father, priest or pastor to our homes.

The dread or automatic consecration that comes upon us as we receive such.

Mrs. Manoah was so overwhelmed that she could say nothing or even ask Him His name!

We can also wear or provoke such aura of dread among men and cause our presence to bring fear when we wear the righteousness of God.

As God’s ambassadors on earth you can also be a man of God wherever you are!

Communication, Vital In Marriage Relationships

Published

Offering Prophet's

Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name: Judges 13:6.

She communicated her experience with the Angel to her husband.

Her first reaction was to speak to her husband, reflecting her openness to him. This was also to the intent that the husband might be a partaker of the promise to the family.

Husbands and wives should flow together and especially when it comes to issues that pertain to their joint legacy in their marriage and the fruits thereof.

Communication is vital and so is trust and openness in marriage relationships.

Mrs. Manoah once she got home confided in her husband pertaining her experience as a way to get his buy-in into the purpose and plan of God for their family.

May God help us in our marriages to communicate and to be open in all issues for in that path we would be able to help one another towards a common destiny.

Samson: God’s Foresight Of Unfulfilled Potentials

Published

on

By

Samson

For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he SHALL BEGIN TO DELIVER Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. Judges 13:5

Before the birth of this son of Mr and Mrs Manoah who was to be famously known as Samson, there were others who judged Israel and DELIVERED Israel from the hands of their enemies.

But you would notice that for Samson, the prophecy about him was that he SHALL BEGIN TO DELIVER.

We had Othniel, (Judges 3:9); Shamgar (Judges 3:31); Gideon (Judges 7:14) among others who DELIVERED Israel from the hands of their enemies.

But the attribution we have of Samson who was arguably the strongest man that ever lived was that he SHALL BEGIN to deliver.

Was it that God knew that Samson would not fulfil his potentials to DELIVER Israel despite being the strongest man ever?

His mother played her part in keeping hersel consecrated during her pregnancy but Samson on account of his lusts for women and violations of his consecration did not fulfil his potentials.

Our individual actions contribute to how we end up in God’s agenda.

Beloved, may God help us that we would not fall short of God’s expectation for our lives.

Good Day.

Drinks, Wine, And Pregnant Christians

Published

By

Wine

Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: Judges 13:4.

As a result of her being pregnant with a child that was to begin the liberation of Israel, Mrs. Manoah was to for the time of her pregnancy, to consecrate herself and abstain from certain things.

Now at that time, this call to consecration was not required of other pregnant women. But for Mrs. Manoah it was COMPULSORY.

We can similarly look at ourselves as people pregnant with the seeds of grace and seeds of the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23.

Now, the fruit of the Spirit is what every Christian should bring forth but the seed must be in us.

To birth this fruit of the Spirit, we must live a life of consecration as was required of Mrs. Manoah.

In our case, the elements of our consecration are stipulated in Romans 12.

Beloved, may God help us to see that we are pregnant with love, joy, peace, gentleness and other ingredients of the fruit of the Spirit.

Like every pregnant woman, let us also move about with caution, eat with caution and live with caution in order to bring forth living and enchanting fruit of the Spirit as planted in us!
