Bayelsa: Lyon, APC Candidate Is Sylva’s Greek Gift, Kinsmen Say
Kinsmen of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, David Lyon, from Southern Ijaw Local Government have endorsed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Senator Douye Diri in the November 16, 2019 election.
The umbrella body of youth groups in the area assured Governor Seriake Dickson of their resolve to massively mobilise support for the PDP standard-bearer, Senator Diri, in the November 16 guber polls.
The prominent leaders also rejected David Lyon who they described as a Greek offer to Southern Ijaw by the leader of the APC, and Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva.
The PDP Grassroot Movement which comprises political leaders from the 17 Wards of area gave the assurance on Tuesday, during a courtesy visit to Governor Dickson in Yenagoa.
Leader of the group, Mr. Salvation Ibena-Rufus, commended Governor Dickson for the peaceful PDP governorship primary as well as for the quality leadership and his developmental stride which he has been rendering for almost eight years in the state.
“Now that our party has a very able and qualified candidate, we as grassroots supporters and mobilisers, we are here to assure you that we are ready to sensitise and mobilise our people, telling them the true story that by November 16 to ensure victory for the PDP at the polls.
Mr. Ibena-Rufus, who described the PDP standard-bearer, Senator Diri, as eminently qualified to take over the reins of leadership from Governor Dickson said they would go to the various wards and communities to massively mobilise and sensitise the people to ensure victory for the party.
Secretary of the PDP Grassroot Movement, Mr. Ayogoi Simeon assured that they are on ground to ensure Senator Diri emerges victorious at the polls so as to sustain Governor Dickson’s legacies in the provision of critical infrastructure of the state.
Simeon who said Bayelsa has changed tremendously in view of the developmental strides of the governor, cited his vision to construct the roads to Nembe, Oporoma and Ekeremor, the healthcare facilities, the exploits education as well as relocation and construction of the Bayelsa International Cargo Airport in Southern Ijaw as key examples.
“We are to show you that we are on ground, our people are fully intact in Southern Ijaw and we want to assure you that we will work hard for the victory of the PDP. During the 2015 re-run, sir you are aware the APC had a Deputy Governorship candidate from our area, but in spite of that you won convincingly and the same thing is about to repeat itself”.
In his remark, Governor Dickson, shortly after inaugurating the group, charged them to organize and work assiduously for the victory of the party in the area but eschew violence and intimidation during their activities.
He urged them to sensitise the people of Southern Ijaw on the need to remain patient and resolute in supporting the PDP, stressing that the candidate of the APC is only a puppet in the hands of some politicians who do not mean well for the state.
“I have already given the charge that it is time to organsie, time to work for the victory of our candidate, Senator Douye Diri. I urge you to shun violence and intimidation. Just go and mobilise and get ready to win again”
“Tell our people to reject the APC and its candidate. Tell our people as you go that Southern Ijaw will have a governor from Southern Ijaw, that will be made by Southern Ijaw, that will come and work for Bayelsa at God’s own time, and not the one that is remote-controlled. No, that is not what Southern Ijaw wants or needs”
In attendance was the PDP Governorship candidate, Senator Douye Diri, State PDP Chairman, Hon. Cleopas Moses, Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Monday Obolo-Bobou and the Chief of Staff Government House, Hon. Talford Ongolo and others.
