Perjury: Ondo Dep-Gov Knows Fate Thursday

The Ondo State Deputy-Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi will Thursday know his fate in a case of perjury brought against him before Nigerian Body of Benchers.
A civil society group, Ondo State Committee on Ethics and Good Governance in a petition to the Body of Benchers alleged that the deputy governor was a full-time employee of the government of Nigeria as a Honourable member of the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011 at the time he was also a full-time student at the Nigerian Law School and his eventual call to the Nigerian Bar in 2010.
The group led Mr. Banji Orogbemi in the petition dated May 28th, 2019 and received at the Body of Benchers on 30th of May, 2019 asked the Body of Benchers to withdraw the law degree and practising certificate issued to the deputy governor which qualified him as a lawyer in 2010, on the ground that the Ondo politician lied on oath.
The petition was referred to the Ethics Committee of the Body of Benchers with a mandate to submit its report by 26th September 2019.
Ajayi was subsequently invited before the committee, which is expected to submit its report to the entire Body of Benchers at its plenary on Thursday.
The deputy-governor risks being struck out from the rolls of legal practitioners in Nigeria and tried for perjury at the expiration of his tenure as the deputy governor of Ondo State if found guilty.
