Strike Called Off As FG, Labour Agree On Implementation Of Minimum Wage

The threat of a national strike fizzled out in the wee hours of Friday as the Federal Government and organised labour reached an agreement on the implementation of the new minimum wage for employees above the minimum wage bracket.

The resumed meeting which commenced at about 7.00 p.m. on Thursday came to an end at about 2.00 a.m. on Friday with the adoption of a new scale by both labour and government. The meeting was presided over by the minister of labour and productivity, Senator Chris Ngige and the minister of state, Festus Keyamo, SAN.

The agreement penned by all parties agreed as thus:

COMESS wage structure

Grade level seven= 23 percent, level 8=20 percent, level 9=19 percent, level 10 -14 = 16 percent, level 15-17=14 percent.

CONHES, CONRRISE, CONTISS, etc

Level 7= 22.2 percent

Level 8-14 = 16 percent

Level 15-17 = 10.5 percent

The meeting also made adjustments to the salaries of military and paramilitary officers, but the percentages were not disclosed.

Dr. Ngige said that he expected the adjustments to be immediately implemented.
