Anxiety Eased As Victoria Island Lion Is Relocated To Zoo, Indian Owner Summoned

Apprehension in the Muri Okunola neighbourhood of Victoria Island where a lion had been housed has lowered following the removal of the beast to a zoo on Monday afternoon.

The Indian national who housed the lion has also been invited by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences for questioning.

The about two-year old lion was relocated to a zoo in Lagos, Chairman of the taskforce, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Yinka Egbeyemi, told Vanguard.

He said the lion was removed at about 1. pm and relocated to the unnamed zoo for proper habitation and tendering

It was removed from the cage it had lived in the front of the house at 229, Muri Okunola Street, Victoria Island, VI, Lagos and taken to the zoo upon mutterings by neighbours.

He said: “There is no cause for the alarm to the people living in and around Muri-Okunola, V.I as men of the agency and officials of the relevant state ministries evacuated the lion and was taken to one of the zoos in the state for proper habitation and tendering.

He nevertheless added that the Indian national who caged the lion had been invited for questioning.
