A medical doctor, Shehu Adamu, on Monday dragged his former fiancé, Rahatt Hayat, before a Sharia Court ll, sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking to recover N491,000 from her.

“When I met her a year ago, she told me that she was already betrothed. She came back later to tell me that she broke her engagement with the other man.

“When she gave me the all clear, I went to her parents to ask for her hand in marriage and they gave me go the head, Adamu said.

Adamu also told the court that he used N100,000 to buy items for the traditional wedding rites.

“She also visited my clinic along with her sisters. Their medical bills amounted to N391,000.

Adamu prayed the court to recover the money he spent on the traditional rites and also the money for the medical checkup and drugs.

The defendant, Hayat, who resides at Ungwar Sarki, Kaduna, denied the N100,000 Adamu claimed he spent on the traditional rites.

“He spent only N90,000.

“I do not know anything about N391,000. He did prescribe medication to me for free .

“He also carried out medical checkups for my three sisters for free but demanded that they pay N10,000 for drugs, I have the list of the drugs,” she said.

After listening to both parties, the Judge, Murtala Nasir, adjourned the case until to November 25.

He also ordered both parties to produce their witnesses by the next adjourned date.
