Kogi: Bello Says He Would Still Have Won Without Massive Okene Votes

Governor Yahaya Bello has rebuffed varying criticisms of the conduct of the election that returned him to power saying that even if the controversial votes credited to him in his stronghold were removed that he would still have won overwhelmingly.

Bello spoke in an interview on Channels on Tuesday, a day after he was returned as governor.

Spokesman of the Musa Wada Campaign, Farouk Adejoh who spoke on the same channel also rebuffed the election as a farce saying that it was a war unleashed on the people of the state by security agencies working in cahoots with Bello’s agents and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“If you remove all the votes of okene, Okehi and Adavi, I still beat my opponent overwhelmingly,” Bello said.

The governor was declared winner of the election with 406, 222 votes while the PDP’s candidate, Musa Wada scored 189, 704 votes.

An estimated 60% of the votes won by the governor came from his Central Senatorial District which, however, has about 25% of the total voting population of the state.

The governor also washed his hands over the impeachment of his erstwhile deputy, Elder Simon Achuba saying that it was a purely legislative function devoid of any role by the executive arm of government.

The question was against the background of claims that the Kogi State House of Assembly proceeded to remove Achuba from office despite the fact that the panel that investigated him did not find him guilty of the allegations raised against him.

Mr. Adejoh on his part decried the conduct of the election which he said turned into a war against the people by the security agencies who he said collaborated with the APC to ensure that voting was disrupted in more than half of the voting points in the state.
